During my time living in Elroy, Wisconsin, I came into real hardship and lost everything. I had food stamps for two years, and despite i worked hard on getting out of the situation, time went on. During this time, I came to know a Lebanese pizza maker who had worked in Sweden. One day, Marwan figured he wanted to know if any Swedish pizza makers were living in the USA, and up came my name...

During this time, I hardly paint. I need to feel good to paint. I had nothing to feel good about. But I painted three other paintings apart from DESPITE. Those paintings are: A NEW BEGINNING, STEP BY STEP & THE SPIRIT. So, this phrase came to be. DESPITE the hardship, I will move forward STEP BY STEP with the help of THE SPIRIT into A NEW BEGINNING. DESPITE is the only original left. I have not tried to sell it before. But as I am putting together this website/Store, I feel it has to be offered. The painting has a hole made when I was all geared up after creating it, and I put a nail through the original and nailed it to the wall.

While art is available at arts and craft shows everywhere in the USA, Mexico doesn't have ANY of that. The only arts and crafts sold on markets in Mexico are inspired by Mexican heritage. Other art, like the one I create, for example, is only available at high-end galleries in Mexico City, San Miguel de Allende, and Monterrey. And as 80% of the population is poor, it is difficult to sell ANYTHING HERE.
